Lithuanian folk dance ensemble "JURA" (The Sea) was founded by Stasys
and Giedre Milasius in 1999. They continue to lead the group to this day.
Members of the group are united by their Lithuanian spirit, and by their
love of Lithuanian song and dance.
The main goals of the "Jura" folk dance group are to maintain the unique
Lithuanian folk dance heritage and to enrich the tapestry of San Diego's
multicultural community.
Our motto - We love our homeland through dance and not words.
"Jura's" first performance took place on February 16th, 2000 at the
Lithuania's Independence Day celebration event in San Diego. Later, in the
summer of 2000, "Jura" dancers participated at the XI Lithuanian Folk
Dance Festival in Toronto, Canada. Every year since inception "Jura" has
performed in the Nations Festival organized by the San Diego House of
Pacific Relations, and in 2002 and 2003 at the San Diego Nations Dance
Festival organized by the San Diego Dance Alliance.
